Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ)
Most pediatric visits are structured around acute concerns — what is happening right now, and how do we treat it. That model is essential, and it is not what we do.
Grove Wellness Kids was built for a different question: why is this happening, and what does this child's body specifically need to function well? Answering that requires time, advanced diagnostics, and a clinical framework that draws on both conventional medicine and evidence-based integrative therapies.
Dr. Jackie's dual board certification in pediatrics and pediatric critical care means that integrative approach is grounded in rigorous clinical training — not a departure from it.
Grove Wellness Kids is led by a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric critical care physician. That clinical foundation matters — it means integrative care here is built on the same diagnostic rigor and evidence standards as conventional medicine, not in spite of them.
Where we differ is in the questions we ask. Rather than managing symptoms in isolation, we use advanced diagnostics to identify underlying drivers — whether metabolic, nutritional, immunological, or environmental — and build a care plan around what we find.
The result is care that is precise, proactive, and specific to your child. Not a protocol. Not a trend. A clinical strategy.
Grove Wellness Kids is built for families who are ready to go beyond the standard sick-visit model — parents who want to understand why their child is struggling, not just manage what is visible on the surface.
We are likely a strong fit if you are navigating concerns that have not been fully resolved through conventional care, if you are interested in a diagnostic-first approach to your child's health, or if you are looking for a physician who will take the time to build a longitudinal picture of your child's biology and tailor care accordingly.
We are a cash-pay practice with a structured care model. Families who are the best fit are those who are prepared to invest in that process and engage with it actively — results here require partnership from the family, not just the physician.
If you are primarily looking for acute sick-visit coverage or a general pediatrics home base, we are likely not the right fit — and we will tell you that directly during the Foundation Consultation if that is the case.
Many of the families we see have children who have been through extensive conventional workups, carry one or more diagnoses, or have symptoms that have persisted despite appropriate standard treatment. That history is not a barrier here. It is context — and it informs how we approach the diagnostic process and where we focus.
Conditions and concerns we commonly evaluate and support include:
Digestive and gut health — reflux, constipation, bloating, and malabsorption
Allergic and atopic disease — eczema, asthma, and environmental allergies
Neurodevelopmental concerns — ADHD, anxiety, and behavioral challenges
Immune dysregulation — recurrent infections, autoimmune conditions, and chronic inflammation
Nutrient insufficiency — deficiencies, malabsorption, and metabolic imbalances
Food sensitivities and their downstream effects on health and development
Dr. Jackie's background in pediatric critical care means complex, layered clinical presentations are familiar clinical territory. We are comfortable holding that complexity, working alongside existing specialists, and contributing a distinct diagnostic lens to a picture that may not yet be complete.
If you are uncertain whether your child's situation is within our scope, the Foundation Consultation is the right place to explore that together.
We see children from 6 months through 18 years. Our approach is adapted to each developmental stage — whether you are navigating early childhood gut and immune concerns, school-age neurodevelopment, or the hormonal and metabolic shifts of adolescence.
The Foundation Consultation is your entry point into Grove Wellness Kids and the starting point for everything that follows.
This is a dedicated one-on-one visit with Dr. Jackie — unhurried and comprehensive. We will review your child's full health history, your family's primary concerns, and any prior workup or records you bring. The goal is not to arrive at a diagnosis in a single session, but to establish a clear clinical picture and determine whether advanced functional testing is indicated and what that would look like for your child specifically.
By the end of the consultation, you will have a defined sense of the clinical questions we are asking, a preliminary sense of direction, and a clear understanding of what a care pathway at Grove Wellness Kids would involve — including next steps, expected investment, and timeline.
There is no obligation to proceed beyond the Foundation Consultation. It is designed to give your family the information you need to make that decision with clarity.
Follow-up care at Grove Wellness Kids is built around a defined clinical pathway, not an open-ended series of appointments.
After the Foundation Consultation, families who move forward enter the Root to Rise™ Foundation Assessment — a comprehensive diagnostic workup followed by a Wellness Roadmap session that maps findings to a prioritized care plan.
From there, most families enroll in the Whole Child Reset™, our 12-week structured program. Follow-up visits within the program are spaced to allow meaningful clinical response time between interventions — protocol adjustments, lab follow-up, and progress review happen within that container, not as separate add-on appointments.
Families who complete the Whole Child Reset™ and want to maintain momentum transition into Rooted Care™, our ongoing membership model, which provides regular check-ins, continued supplement support, and access to specialty services as your child's needs evolve.
Every phase of care is purposeful. There is no indefinite follow-up without a clinical rationale for it.
Diagnostic testing is the foundation of everything we do. Rather than making clinical assumptions, we use advanced functional lab work to build an objective picture of your child's biology — then build care around what we find.
Our core testing areas include gut microbiome analysis, organic acids, micronutrient status, environmental toxin burden, inflammatory markers, food sensitivities, and hormonal patterns, among others. We work with a curated panel of specialty lab partners chosen for their clinical rigor and pediatric relevance — including Tiny Health, Genova, and Mosaic Diagnostics.
Testing is designed to be as accessible as possible. Depending on the panel, labs may be completed at a local draw site or through an at-home collection kit. Results are reviewed directly with you during a dedicated session — never dropped into a portal without context.
Every protocol that follows is built from your child's specific findings. There is no standardized panel applied to every patient.
Every recommendation at Grove Wellness Kids begins with data. We do not apply generalized protocols — interventions are built from your child's specific diagnostic findings, which means dosing, sequencing, and product selection are all individualized to their physiology and developmental stage.
Dr. Jackie's dual board certification in pediatrics and pediatric critical care provides the clinical foundation for that decision-making. Integrative recommendations here are held to the same evidence standard as conventional ones — if the evidence does not support an intervention for a child, we do not recommend it.
We also monitor. Follow-up labs and clinical check-ins are built into the care model specifically to assess response, catch anything unexpected, and adjust accordingly. Safety is not assumed — it is tracked.
Yes. When clinically indicated, we provide highly curated, pharmaceutical-grade supplement recommendations through our Fullscript online dispensary — offering seamless ordering and direct home delivery.
Every recommendation is individualized to your child's specific clinical findings, with a focus on purity, potency, and pediatric-appropriate formulations.
All between-visit communication is managed through the secure patient portal. This is where you will send messages, review lab results, and manage appointments — everything in one place, with a documented record of your child's care.
We ask that families allow up to 48 business hours for portal responses. Messages received after hours, on weekends, or on holidays will be addressed on the next business day.
For concerns that feel time-sensitive but are not emergencies, the portal is still the right channel — please mark your message accordingly and we will prioritize it.
For urgent or emergent concerns, please contact your child's primary care physician or go to the nearest emergency department. Grove Wellness Kids is not structured for acute or emergency care.
Yes, and we encourage it. Grove Wellness Kids is designed to work alongside your child's primary care physician and any specialists already involved in their care — not to replace them.
With your written authorization, we are glad to share relevant records, care summaries, and lab findings with other members of your child's care team. Clear communication across providers leads to better outcomes, and we take that seriously.
If a finding falls outside our scope or warrants specialist referral, we will say so directly and help coordinate next steps.
Yes. Grove Wellness Kids operates on a cash-pay model. We do not bill insurance directly for physician services, which allows us to structure care around your child's clinical needs rather than insurance limitations.
We can provide detailed superbills, which you may submit to your insurance carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and varies by plan — we recommend contacting your carrier directly to understand your out-of-network benefits.
Many families use HSA or FSA funds for both physician services and lab fees, and we encourage you to explore that option if it is available to you.
Laboratory testing is also cash-pay. Depending on the panel, labs are billed directly to the patient or bundled within a lab package. We will be transparent about expected costs before any testing is ordered so there are no surprises.
This is one of the most important questions a family can ask — and one that deserves an honest answer rather than a reassuring one.
Functional medicine works at the level of underlying biology. That means the timeline for meaningful change is measured in weeks to months, not days. Some children respond quickly once a root driver is identified and addressed. Others have more complex or layered presentations where progress is incremental and requires patience and consistency from the family as well as the physician.
What we can tell you is that the Whole Child Reset™ is structured as a 12-week program specifically because that is the minimum timeframe in which most families begin to see sustained, meaningful clinical movement — not just symptomatic relief.
We track progress systematically throughout care. If something is not working, we will tell you and adjust. What we will not do is continue a protocol indefinitely without clinical justification for it.
If you are looking for a quick fix, we are likely not the right fit. If you are prepared to invest in a process that addresses the root of what is happening, the timeline becomes worthwhile.
